The reputed University of New Mexico was founded in the year 1889 with the aim of becoming the state university of New Mexico. Its main campus, which spans almost 800 acres, is situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the United States. The University of New Mexico courses include almost 215 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, 94 of which are baccalaureate degrees, 71 master's degrees, and 37 doctoral degrees. Along with these schools, UNM also houses a university college, a school of architecture and planning, a school of public administration, a school of education, a school of fine arts, a school of nursing, a school of pharmacy, and a college of arts & sciences.
The University of New Mexico was the first university in the United States to take the initiative to establish a Signature School Program in collaboration with the CIA, or Central Intelligence Agency, in 2016. This allowed students to interact with analysts and learn how to join the CIA after graduation.

The NCAA Division I programme at the University of New Mexico offers 16 sports with special teams for each one. In sports like basketball, cross-country running, football, skiing, and soccer, this university has its own teams.
