University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a public institution that was established in 1947 as a campus of the University of Minnesota system. It offers graduate programs in 26 different fields, 15 bachelor's degrees in 84 majors, a two-year program at the School of Medicine as well as a four-year College of Pharmacy program. Its academic calendar is semester-based.
The university is well recognized for its excellence both nationally and internationally. Presently, it ranks #45 in the recent edition of the Best Colleges ranking in Regional Universities Midwest which ranks schools based on their performance across widely accepted indicators of excellence. In addition, the university ranks #28 in Best Colleges for Veterans and #59 in Best Value Schools.
