University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), established in 1881, mainly reflects The Catholic Intellectual Tradition, Judeo-Christian principles, and Catholic Social Teaching. Originally established as an all-girls school, it now has co-ed branches. The University of the Incarnate Word is known as the largest Catholic University in the state and the fourth largest private University in Texas.
