The City College of New York, the city's top institution of higher learning, has been known for its academic brilliance since 1847. It is a public institution of higher learning and a member of the City College of New York System. The college is located in Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood on 35 acres that stretch from Convent Avenue. Goerge B. Post, a well-known architect, created the college's exterior in 1847.
Due to its excellent infrastructure and architecture, the college building holds landmark status. A successful businessman established the City College of New York to give low-income and immigrant children access to free higher education based on academic performance. It was founded on the lines of other such organizations in Boston and Philadelphia.
