Troy University is a public university located in Troy, Alabama. The University was established in 1887 as Troy State Normal School within the Alabama State University System and is currently the flagship of the Troy University System. Moreover, it holds accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees.
Students can select from a number of Troy University courses, including Economics, Leadership, Administration, and Education, Marketing and Management, Public Relations and Journalism, Marine Biology, Military and Defense, Surveying and Geomatics, and Fire Science. With a total enrollment of 16,970 students, Troy has 13,354 undergraduates and 3,472 graduates. Over 1000 international students represent more than 80 countries.

The first Confucius Institute was established at Troy University in Alabama.
The University has recently been awarded a grant from NIST worth USD 3.2 million to establish the Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences, a facility to research recycling plastic materials. By establishing the center, Troy University will be able to expand its partnership with the local plastic recycling industry in order to increase its competitiveness.
