Gannon University has its roots from the year 1925 as Cathedral College, established under Charter of Village Maria College. In 1941, it was taken over by Archbishop John Mark Gannon and renamed as Gannon College. By 1964, it emerged as a full-fledged co-educational graduate school. It attained University status by the year 1979.
