Minnesota State University or Minnesota State as it is popularly known started off in 1868 in present-day Mankato. Known as the Mankato Normal School initially, it rapidly grew to become the second biggest public university and college system in the entire state. It has a wide range of subjects for undergraduate, graduate and doctorate courses.
It currently offers over 100 undergraduate courses, four doctoral programs and 80 graduate programs. It also has two other campuses in the cities of Owatonna and Edina.
