The history of the Pittsburg State University is traced back to 1903. However it was in 1977 that the university was finally established under its present name. The student population consists of around 6900 undergraduate and 1400 graduate students. The students are from over 40 countries studying together giving it an international outlook. Over 200 academic programs are offered through an academic staff of around 300. The academic programs are arranged in 4 colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, Gladys A. Kelce College of Business, College of Education, College of Technology and the Graduate school. The university is accredited.
The Pittsburg State University has chosen as its mascot GUS the Gorilla.
