In Paradise, Nevada, there is a public research institution called the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The Las Vegas Strip is about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) east of the 332-acre (134 ha) complex. From 1957 until 1969, it was a component of the University of Nevada. The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada's Shadow Lane Campus, which houses both the School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine, is part of it. It is located just to the east of that facility. The only law school in the state is the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV.
