Private Jesuit research institution Saint Louis University (SLU) has campuses in Madrid, Spain, and St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. It is the second-oldest Jesuit university in the United States and the oldest university west of the Mississippi River. Louis William Valentine DuBourg founded it in 1818. It is one of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities' 27 member institutions.
The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools has granted university accreditation. 12,883 students were enrolled at SLU for the 2021–2022 school year. 8,138 undergraduate and 4,745 graduate students, who represent all 50 states and 82 countries, made up the student population. The University is categorised by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as a Research II university.
The Pius XII Memorial Library is located on Saint Louis University's north campus, the Medical Center Library is located on the south campus, the Vincent C. Immel Library is located at the law school in the heart of downtown Saint Louis, and the library in San Ignacio Hall is located on the university's campus in Madrid, Spain.
The Saint Louis University Museum of Art (SLUMA), the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA), and the Samuel Cupples House are the other three museums at the university.
