The University was founded in 1911 by what is now The United Methodist Church, with support from Dallas leaders. SMU offers 104 bachelor’s degrees, 113 master’s degrees, 27 doctoral-research degrees, one doctoral-professional degree and one specialist degree, through seven schools, namely, the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, the Meadows School of the Arts, the Cox School of Business, the Lyle School of Engineering, the Dedman School of Law, the Perkins School of Theology, the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development
